Abstract

There are courses and seminars on leadership generally focused on areas other than medicine, and in addition, most are based on providing advice and recommendations without considering that this aptitude is part of being; for this reason, this reflective article is presented to describe the integration of ontological leadership in the practice of medicine. This review describes the fundamental pillars of ontological leadership, the contextual framework of a leader, and the ontological limitations based on the course “Being A Leader and The Effective Exercise Of Leadership: An Ontological/Phenomenological Model” from Harvard Business School, and is incorporated into medical practice through various examples, primarily aimed at medical education teachers. Finally, concluding that ontological leadership can transform the education and practice of future medical professionals and, therefore, positively impact society’s health and welfare.
