Abstract

Objective: To propose a clinical classification of transgender patients according to gender identity and therapeutic expectations, based on the experience of the TRANSdisciplinary clinic at HUSI.

Method: Retrospective analytical observational study of medical records from patients over 18 years old, attended between 2018 and 2023. Patients were classified by gender identity and gender affirmation goals (hormonal, surgical). Sexual orientation was also analyzed.

Results: 289 patients were included: 170 trans-women and 119 trans-men. Most trans-men identified as transgender (56.3%) and most trans-women as transsexual (70.6%). Common expectations included hormonal therapy (98%-99%) and chest (97% in trans-men) or genital surgery (71% in trans-women).

Conclusions: A simplified classification based on therapeutic expectations enhances clinical communication and enables individualized care. This tool may benefit other institutions developing similar care pathways.

Keywords: Transsexuals. Transgender. Sex reassignment surgery.
